Google Starts Production of 1st Batch of Made-In-India Pixel 8 Smartphones

Google has started producing its Pixel 8 devices in India, marking a significant step in its commitment to local manufacturing. This move aligns with India's "Make in India" initiative and is expected to attract more global tech companies to invest in the region.

The Pixel 8 devices are being manufactured in collaboration with Dixon Technologies. Initially, only the base Pixel 8 model is being produced in India, with plans to expand production to other models in the future. This strategy mirrors Apple's approach, which has also shifted a significant portion of its iPhone assembly to India.

Initially, the production will be limited, but Google plans to assemble most of its new smartphones in India for both domestic and export markets within the next three years.

This move is part of a broader strategy to diversify its manufacturing locations and reduce dependency on China and Vietnam. The Pixel 8 devices are being produced in collaboration with Wowtek Technology India, a subsidiary of Bharat FIH, which is part of the Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn).

This initiative is expected to boost local manufacturing and create numerous job opportunities in India.

This development not only boosts local manufacturing but also positions India as a key player in the global tech supply chain.

The local assembly of Pixel 8 devices in India is likely to have a positive impact on pricing. By manufacturing in India, Google can benefit from reduced import duties and lower production costs, which could translate to more competitive pricing for consumers. Additionally, this move aligns with the Indian government’s incentives for local manufacturing, potentially leading to further cost savings.

However, the exact impact on pricing will depend on various factors, including the scale of production, supply chain efficiencies, and market demand. Overall, consumers in India might see more affordable Pixel 8 devices compared to previous models.
