An Odisha-based private news channel Odisha TV has launched an AI-generated news anchor named 'Lisa'.
Touted as the State's first Artificial Intelligence (AI) news anchor, Lisa will present news both in Odia and English for OTV Network's television and digital platforms.
"The use of AI has just begun in television broadcasting and for that reason, Lisa is all set to create many new milestones in times to come. She is the first AI anchor in the free-to-air regional television broadcasting arena," said Odisha TV MD Jagi Mangat Panda said while introducing Lisa.
Lisa harnesses the power of AI and LLM to deliver news with precision and efficiency. Combining groundbreaking machine learning algorithms with a life-like virtual presenter.
According to Odisha TV’s Digital Business Head Litisha Mangat Panda, "Even Google doesn’t translate Odia to English properly. It has been a huge team effort and today we have been able to do that. Of course, it is not as fluent as you, but it is much more fluent than what Google Translate could offer."
Lisa has the capability to speak in many languages, however as of now, she will only present news in Odia and English for Odisha TV Network's television and digital platforms. Efforts are underway to make Lisa more proficient in Odia language in the coming days.

In 2018, China's state news agency unveiled its own virtual anchor. In April this year, a media outlet in Kuwait launched its first virtual news presenter using artificial intelligence (AI). Named "Fedha," the AI anchor made her debut on the Twitter account of Kuwait News.
Earlier in March this year, China has revealed its latest digital news anchor, an artificial intelligence (AI) powered “woman” that delivers news 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
