The platform is the first of its kind in India for the patient community
The International Patients’ Union (IPU) has been founded to address the challenges faced by patients across India related to accessibility, affordability, and quality of healthcare. IPU will connect patients with top doctors, policy-makers, regulators, industry leaders, and other fellow patients, providing them with a platform to put forth their opinions, contribute to policy formulation, and learn from each other how to better manage their disease conditions.
Dr. Rajendra Pratap Gupta, the International Patients’ Union's founder, stated, “The patients, whom the healthcare sector is supposed to serve, have no say in the discourse on healthcare. The Doctors are organized, and the industry is organized, but no one has ever thought of organizing the patients. International Patients’ Union was formed to act as a leveler to ensure that healthcare flips from provider-centric procedure-driven to user-centric and outcome-driven.”
IPU will be launched at India’s first Patient’s conference on April 6, 2023, at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi. This conference will focus on patients and bring together all stakeholders in the healthcare sector under one roof. Patients from across the country will get the opportunity to put forth their views, suggestions, and concerns. The aim is to undertake all activities that will make the healthcare system patient-centric and outcome-driven. The conference will witness the launch of 2 other campaigns - JOY and World Health Communication Week.
IPU is here to revolutionize the healthcare sector by creating a community of more informed, aware and empowered patients. By connecting patients with doctors, policy-makers, and industry leaders, IPU will help make Indian Healthcare Delivery System more effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-driven. Patients’ Union will initiate user ratings for care providers and start ‘patient-reported outcomes’ for improving the quality of care and making it value-based care.
