It was in early 2019 when Taiwanese consumer electronics company HTC unveiled Blockchain-based smartphone - Exodus - that comes with a secure partition on which users could store cryptocurrency separate from the Android operating system. It offers the world's first Bitcoin node on a mobile device. Since the launch of Exodus, HTC is occasionally launching phones but cheaper & budget friendly version targeting Asian & African markets.
Now in a latest, a Taiwan industry news website, DigiTimes reported, citing statements made by HTC 's general manager for the Asia-Pacific region, that HTC plans to launch a new high-end smartphone with Metaverse functions, in April this year.
According to Charles Huang, who is responsible for the HTC's most important Asian markets, the company plans to integrate certain "metaverse" functions for the new top smartphone, which is to be presented in April. Apparently, the main aim is to appeal to customers who want to use it for VR and AR applications.
Recently. HTC has also officially announced VIVERSE - its flagship open-source and secure metaverse platform, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022. Viverse is an extension of HTC’s foray into the Metaverse.
VIVERSE is cross-platform metaverse network built on a foundation of Web3 technologies like VR, AR, AI, 5G, cryptocurrency, and NFTs. Over the past 7 years, HTC has collaborated with thousands of content developers to build the VIVERSE ecosystem.
The Viverse range of phones will leverage HTC’s inhouse VR headsets, the VIVE Focus 3 and VIVE Pro 2. The high end phone will launch in the premium segment enabled with VR and AR capabilities.
According to Cher Wang, co-founder and now CEO of the company, "HTC plans to continue investing heavily in the virtual reality (VR) products market. So far, the company has focused on the B2B sector, according to Wang, in order to open up the enterprise market with meeting, conference and shopping solutions.

Last month, the company also announced about its new offering called VIVE Sync", calling it a "Personal Metaverse" for its users. It features a collection of private Virtual Reality (VR) spaces for relaxation, recreation, and productivity. "No one else can enter the room; you have the room all to yourself. This is a space where you can get away and focus on yourself."
