NMICPS (National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems) Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation (TiHAN), IIT Hyderabad held its Hub Governing Body Meeting recently chaired by Prof B S Murty, Director, IITH which was attended by Dr K R Murali Mohan Mission Director, NMICPS, Department of Science & Technology along with other members. Dr K R Murali Mohan launched the logo & Brochure for TiHAN along with Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) & Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) kits specifically designed for Skill Development Activities of Hub. TiHAN Logo has been designed considering innovation, autonomous navigation across different modes of transportation and the colors symbolize energy, dedication, new generation & technology. TiHAN has entered into an agreement with the industry to ensure commercial availability of UGV & UAV kits which will benefit utilization by target institutes, industry, and student enthusiasts. The occasion was graced by members of the TiHAN Hub Governing Board.

“TiHAN has made remarkable progress and should now focus on taking the Hub to next level through effective partnerships with Industry & Start-ups in ensuring translational research as well as commercialization of technological developments. NMICPS Hubs have been making a significant impact across the Nation in the assigned technology verticals by engaging Institutes, Industry, and research activities in a holistic manner”, added, Dr K M Murali, Mohan Mission Director, NMICPS, Dept of Science & Technology.

Sharing the latest updates on the project, Prof P Rajalakshmi, Project Director, TiHAN, IITH, said, “TiHAN has been leading research & development in the assigned vertical and would work closely with other stakeholders like PSUs, Government Institutes, Industry, R&D Organisations as well as start-ups in building a strong collaborative network to achieve objectives enshrined as part of NMICPS”.

About TiHAN, IIT Hyderabad

The newly established DST NMICPS Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation and Data Acquisition Systems – TiHAN at IIT Hyderabad focuses on the research, design, and development of autonomous navigation and data acquisition systems for UAVs, RoVs, etc. With a synergetic industry and academic collaborations, the hub aims at realizing the utilization of autonomous navigation and data acquisition systems in the Indian as well as international context. The hub would like to accept R&D funding proposals in the field of Autonomous Navigation Systems for Ground Aerial & Water surface Vehicles, application of Autonomous Navigation Technologies in Agriculture, Infrastructure monitoring, Surveillance, Environmental Monitoring, and related areas.

Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is one of the eight new IITs established by the Government of India in 2008. In a short span of 13 years, the institute has become a top ranker and currently has 260+ full-time faculty, 3,900+ students (26% women), nearly 200+ state-of-the-art laboratories, and five research and entrepreneurship centers. The institute has a strong research focus with approx. Rs 575+ crore of sanctioned research funding with Ph.D. scholars accounting for about 30% of total student strength. IITH has to its credit more than 7200+ research publications, 210+ patent disclosures, 1600+ sponsored/consultancy projects, and about 100+ startups.
