SucSEED Invests in Sortizy India's 1st Food Video Commerce Platform

SucSEED backs Sortizy, the Best app of 2021 in Google Play Store for Everyday Essentials category

Hyderabad based food video commerce startup Sortizy has secured Seed funds from SucSEED Angels Network, Campus Fund, and other angel investors.

Sortizy is India's first food video commerce platform that enables users to conveniently manage their everyday home cooking. Through video commerce users can discover right kitchen related brands and products and enjoy shopping while watching engaging short videos. Sortizy also offers a smart search engine and food-focused filters which recommend personalized recipes and cuts down the time it takes to find the right content. The platform is making cooking easier for anyone and with any level of cooking experience, by offering step-by-step smart recipe guides. Founded by four food enthusiasts Surbhi Guha, Sagthi Prakash, Akshay Gupta and Nitin Gupta in 2020, the start-up envisions to promote conscious decision-making around food and enable its users to sustainably manage their diets and nutrition at home.

Sortizy has over 150 content partners across India and 10 other nations. The platform enables them with an opportunity to publish their content in food focused formats, earn more from their efforts through multiple revenue sources and deliver more value to users across India, helping them easily eat the food of their choice.

Post the launch on Google Play Store in May 2021, over 3.6 lakh recipe explorations have happened and users have cooked for more than 1700 hours using the platform. The app has been awarded by Google Play as the Best app of 2021 in Everyday Essentials category.

Sagthi Prakash, the Founder of Sortizy said, “having faced the struggles of managing our home kitchens & diet due to busy lifestyles and lack of knowledge & skills, it motivated us to build a go-to platform for millions of Indian households where they can get more value from the content that they are already consuming and use it to eat the food of their choice easily at home."

He further added that, "The pre-seed funding we raised from SucSEED, Campus Fund and such established Angel Investors will help us enhance our product and technology capabilities, strengthening our team and accelerate growth".

Speaking on why they have invested, Vikrant Varshney Co-Founder & Managing Partner of SucSEED Angels Network, said “The total available market (TAM) for the Food Video Commerce category is $15B by 2025. The key growth drivers in this space include Indian social commerce, which is expected to reach $70B by 2030 (food category constitutes 8-10% of this). Online kitchen appliances market is growing with 37% CAGR to reach $1.2B by 2025. There are more than 200M urban millennials and older gen Zs to cater to in the space. The relationship of lifestyle and health is getting considered in the last few years and more so post pandemic. Sortizy re-imagines the way we approach diet & nutrition at home. It also caters to India’s first ever food focused & interactive short video content (called Yumms) to explore, discover, connect & learn everything about food and we wanted to participate in their journey."

Deepthi Ravula, CEO, WE Hub, said ''Sortizy is a great example of how a student idea can be scaled, developed and reached to an accelerator stage by getting access to the right support at the right time. When the founders strive to put all the effort in, access to funds at the right time is always an added advantage. Sortizy has time and again proved itself by showing the right caliber by raising funds through Aha and SISFS through WE Hub. Glad that SucSEED is supporting them in the same mission, looking forward to see sortizy scale up and progress''

Sortizy has been incubated with IIT Hyderabad and WeHub and have received great support from them at regular interval.

Anirudh Toshniwal, Partner at Campus Fund said, “While people consume a lot of food and recipe content on social media and streaming platforms, none of them provide the user personalized catalog with ease of preparing the same. Sortizy users would be able to buy required groceries, utensils and get a step-by-step guide on how to prepare the recipe while scrolling through mouthwatering short-video content."

About Sortizy (Chefcape Enterprises Private Limited)

Sortizy Team

Sortizy is India's first food video commerce platform that enables users to conveniently manage their everyday home cooking. Through video commerce users can discover right kitchen related brands and products and enjoy shopping while watching engaging short videos. Sortizy also offers a smart search engine and food-focused filters which recommend personalized recipes and cuts down the time it takes to find the right content.

Sortizy is empowering food content creators to earn more and helping brands to nurture their leads through food content marketing.

Problem(s) that Sortizy is addressing:

Food is a popular content category as the millennials & gen Z rely heavily on it for getting inspiration, making purchase decisions & learning. This dependency is increasing with exposure to new cuisine, diet, & ingredients, consciousness for sustainability & health, and lack of knowledge & skills.

Despite this popularity, the commerce and the value that users can get around food content is under-penetrated due to:
  • Time taking discovery with scattered content
  • Hassle-some purchase process
  • Inconvenient cooking with non-uniform content
Due to this, content creators are only able to generate money through viewership and paid collaboration with brands that just creates awareness but hardly nurture leads.

Solution that Sortizy offers:

Short food videos where users can purchase products while enjoying the content. Influencers are endorsing the products which brings more authenticity to the user’s purchase process.Anyone can cook easily with step-by-step recipe guides. These smart guides are multilingual, come with voice assistance and timer.

Sortizy is making food content more impactful for users, content creators and brands.
  1. Users to make maximum use of food content and eat the food of their choice easily at home,
  2. Content creators to express their creation through dedicated content formats and generate more revenues
  3. Brands engage with their consumers meaningfully with content marketing
Users can search in a jiffy - “what to make with broccoli under 300 calories” or “healthy dessert under 30 mins which doesn't require any oven”.

Just like in the app, you will be able to place bets, learn about bonuses, register, make money transactions, and much more. The app, as opposed to the mobile version of the site, is quicker and easier to use. Only the fact that it must be downloaded and installed separates the mobile app from the mobile version of the site.

However, because the program has previously been downloaded, it runs significantly quicker because it does not need to load interface components every time it is used. In addition, placing a shortcut on the main screen will allow you to use the services of the service in just one click.

EFFORT, a non-profit organisation committed to empower rural communities for sustainable development has successfully completed a water harvesting project in collaboration with IPM India Wholesale Trading across key water distressed regions of Andhra Pradesh. With an aim to improve water resource management, the project has focused on conserving rainwater by developing relevant infrastructure as well as educating local communities.

Today, India is on the brink of a water crisis. The 2030 Water Resources Group estimates that if we continue to consume water as per the current rate, India will have only half the water it needs by 2030, a possible reality which is only ten years away. Additionally, 60% of India’s districts have been declared critical on groundwater. This means that people either have scarce supply or poor quality of groundwater, or both. A NITI Aayog report also indicates the severe water scarcity which will eventually lead to a 6 percent loss in the country’s GDP.

Marking a step in this direction, EFFORT has successfully implemented a water harvesting/ conservation project across 12 villages of Guntur and Prakasam Districts in Andhra Pradesh. Through concerted efforts, the project has seen the construction of a percolation tank in 1 village, check dams in 2 villages, rainwater harvesting (RWH) structures in 6 schools and provision for water purifiers in 6 RWH schools.

Rain Water Harvesting in Schools

Commenting on the project progress, Dr. Hari Babu Pokuri, Project Director of EFFORT, said “While India receives ample rainfall, 95% of this rainwater is lost owing to lack of harvesting and poor management leading to an alarming depletion of ground water and significant wastage of this precious resource. Moreover, with unpredictable monsoons, many villages face water scarcity through the year which makes it difficult to sustain a normal life. In partnership with IPM India Wholesale Trading, we are proud of the positive impact we have been able to create to serve the needs of the local communities and better support them in water resource management. EFFORT endeavors to sustain its efforts of working closely with local communities to spread awareness against wastage of water and implement better conversation best practices.”

Juvenescence Ltd. Portfolio Company Hails Successful Limb Regeneration in Adult Frogs

Business Wire India

Morphoceuticals Inc., a portfolio company of Juvenescence Ltd., hailed the results of a long-term study published by its founders in Science Advances showing the successful regeneration of limbs in Xenopus laevis (African clawed frog). This is the first demonstration of functional limb regeneration in a species that does not show spontaneous regeneration of complex limbs in adulthood. Approximately 185,000 amputations, the surgical removal of a limb, are performed in the United States each year and it is expected that nearly 3.6 million people will be living with the loss of an arm or a leg by 2050. (Amputee Coalition)

Work conducted at the academic labs of Michael Levin, Vannevar Bush Professor of Biology at Tufts University and David Kaplan, Stern Family Professor of Engineering at Tufts, the co-founders of Morphoceuticals Inc., demonstrated the regrowth, marked tissue repatterning, and functional restoration of an X. laevis hindlimb following a brief, 24-hour exposure to a novel multidrug, pro-regenerative treatment delivered by a wearable bioreactor. Regenerated tissues composed of new skin, bone, vasculature, and nerves significantly exceeded the complexity and sensorimotor capacities of the study’s controls.

Levin stated that “Organisms such as X. laevis, whose limited regenerative capacities in adulthood mirror some of the key limitations of humans, are important models with which to test interventions and discover triggers that could restore both form and function”. Kaplan added “These data demonstrate our ability to successfully ’kickstart’ endogenous regenerative pathways in vertebrates; however, translation of these findings to mammals remains to be demonstrated as a next key step in this process.”

Greg Bailey, MD, the CEO of Juvenescence Ltd., the seed investor of Morphocueticals, noted, “Drs. Levin and Kaplan are pioneering new approaches to enable the regeneration of functioning limbs, tissues, and organs. These findings herald the first application of a new set of tools that will be further developed by Morphoceuticals and will allow us to explore new approaches to regenerative treatment in ways that are truly unique.” He added that, “The potential applications are aimed at one day helping patients overcome the burden of loss of organs and limbs in ways that traditional medicine cannot, and that was why Juvenescence invested and continues to be so supportive of Morphoceuticals’ scientific platform.”

Alex Pickett, Managing Director and Head of Business Development at Juvenescence and a Director of Morphoceuticals, Inc. remarked, “The long-term regenerative effects of a short exposure to a multi-drug cocktail suggest that Drs. Levin and Kaplan have been able to trigger a developmental subroutine that can be repurposed for regenerative medicine. Juvenescence is excited for Morphoceuticals to continue developing a better understanding of how bioelectric patterning contributes to development and regeneration.”

Madhavbaug and Rural Relations Launch Gram Arogya Sanjeevani Program for Controlling Chronic Illnesses in the Rural Areas

https://ift.tt/0Al9pN8fx

Business Wire India

According to an article published in AHA Journal, the ratio of Chronic Heart Diseases (CHD) has increased from 10.19% (95% CI, 9.11–11.27) to 13.91% (95% CI, 12.41–15.41). In this, the rate of increase in the risk factors of heart diseases is found to be higher in the rural areas as compared to the urban areas. The reason for this, it is observed, is the changing lifestyle of the people. For this reason, to prevent heart diseases by bringing about appropriate changes in the lifestyle of the people, Madhavbaug’s (Vaidya Sane Ayurved Laboratories Ltd.)

274 clinics, OPDs and 2 hospitals use a five-pronged treatment, that includes Ayurvedic treatments which have been proven through more than 150 research papers, scientific diet, physical exercises, modern diagnostics, and digital apps like mibPULSE and Power Map. With the help of this approach, Madhavbaug (Vaidya Sane Ayurved Laboratories Ltd.) has successfully treated more than 10 lakh heart patients. Along with this, Madhavbaug has also created a national record of administering simultaneous GTT tests to 661 diabetic patients.

This record has been registered in the India Book of Records. Based on a suggestion by the Union Minister of Surface Transport and Highways, hon. Nitin Gadkari, Madhavbaug’s (Vaidya Sane Ayurved Laboratories Ltd.) founder Dr. Rohit Sane has put forward a concept called “Gram Arogya Sanjeevani”. ‘Under this, through the OPDs they shall work in the rural areas to create awareness among the rural people about the symptoms of heart disease, the research-based treatments available for preventing them, the advanced diagnostics and in general, health. In the first leg of this initiative, Madhavbaug joined hands with an organization named Rural Relations and have started the public awareness campaign with their help in 20 talukas. Madhavbaug aims is to reach 95,000 villages in the coming three years’, Dr. Rohit Sane, founder director of Madhavbaug (Vaidya Sane Ayurved Laboratories Ltd.) informed here today.

Rural Relation is an organization that helps in the development of the people in the rural areas and has been working in this field for the past 20 years. Till date, the organization has established a direct contact with 95,000 villages all over India. In these 20 years, the organization has implemented many initiatives. One of these initiatives is the “Gyan Key Library” which has benefitted more than one lakh rural students.

The lack of health-related information is causing an increase in the lifestyle related diseases like heart diseases, diabetes, blood pressure and blockages. It has become essential to contain the spread of these diseases in time. Madhavbaug (Vaidya Sane Ayurved Laboratories Ltd.) is engaged in treating heart diseases using a five-pronged strategy of using Ayurvedic research-based treatments, scientific diet, physical exercise, modern tests, and digital apps. It is successfully treating the rural patients using this strategy through its more than 25 OPDs and mini-clinics located in rural areas and helping them overcome the fear of deadly heart diseases and heart attacks. He further said that this initiative will not just benefit the patients to improve their health; it would also make available employment opportunities to rural youths as they can get health training and work as the representatives of Madhavbaug (Vaidya Sane Ayurved Laboratories Ltd.) to take their service to every village.

Madhavbaug (Vaidya Sane Ayurved Laboratories Ltd.) being an Ayurvedic company and Rural Relation being a public oriented organization, they have come together through the “Gram Arogya Sanjeevani” initiative with the objective of exterminating heart diseases from the rural regions. The initiative was launched on 26th January 2022 on occasion of Republic Day of India in the presence of Madhavbaug’s founder director Dr. Rohit Sane and Rural Relations’ founder director Pradeep Lokhande.

iPhone Manufacturer Foxconn To Make Electric Cars in India for American EV Startup Fisker

Taiwanese multinational electronics contract manufacturer, Foxconn, that mnufactures Apple's iPhone in India, will reportedly going to manufacture electric cars in the country, for California, U.S. -bsased Electric Vehicle (EV) Startup Fisker Inc., in the next couple of years.

According to a report by Economic Times, Fisker Inc will initially set up a technology centre in Hyderabad, with a roster of over 300 engineers, and within two years, in a manufacturing alliance with Foxconn, make the electric 'global vehicle' Pear in India.

Fisker Inc is an EV startup promoted by Henrik Fisker,  a renowned car designer known for designing luxury car models like BMW Z8, Aston Martin DB9. The startup was founded in 2016 by Fisker and his wife Geeta Gupta-Fisker, an India-born veteran financier and biotech PhD holder.

Fisker is developing the Fisker Ocean, an all-electric SUV made from recycled and vegan materials, with an estimated range of 300-350 miles. The startup had even filed a patent (in 2017) for a car battery that has a range of 500 miles and can be charged in one minute.

Its Ocean model Ocean, is set for a global launch in November and will be imported in India as a completely built unit. The company is in the process of setting up a local entity, starting with the tech centre before it locally manufactures its second model called 'Pear', through its collaboration with Foxconn.

Fisker is Nasdaq-listed public company that raised more than $1 billion in its October 2020 IPO.

With the global electric cars adoption and as the all-electric SUV sector heats up with more competition, Fisker's Ocean SUV will compete with Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E.

In A First of Earth's Lifetime, A Space Junk May Collide with the Moon at 9,288 Km/Hour Speed

Representational Image (credits - Pixabay)

An old space junk, which is of Elon Musk promoted company SpaceX's rocket that was launched nearly 7-years ago, will now crash into the moon, predicts astronomers.

Launched in February 2015, SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket ran out of fuel and now the 4.4-ton (4 metric tons) rocket has been moving around fast in the space, in a chaotic orbit. It was supposed to be the part of a mission to send a climate observation satellite 930,000 miles (1.5 million kilometers) from Earth.

On January 5, 2022, Falcon 9 rocket's debris made a close flyby of the moon.

This all was predicted by Bill Gray, a developer of software that tracks near-Earth objects. In a blog post, he stated, "The rocket's upper stage is now expected to hit the far side of the moon while traveling at a blistering speed of 5,771 mph (9,288 km/h) on March 4, 2022."

"There are still several bits of junk we're tracking that may eventually hit the earth or moon or be ejected into orbit around the sun.", Bill says in his blog post.

Further, the data from observers helped scientists pinpoint its orbit of Falcon 9 rocket, discovering it would hit the Hertzsprung crater on the moon’s far side on March 4 at approximately 12:25 UTC.

The effects of the collision impact will be minimal, aside from a new, albeit small, crater on the moon.

Jonathan McDowell, an astrophysicist at Harvard University, also confirmed that Falcon 9 space debris will hit the Moon. In a tweet, he said, "yes, an old Falcon 9 second stage left in high orbit in 2015 is going to hit the moon on March 4. It's interesting, but not a big deal."

Though, SpaceX may not be held responsible for this collision as it's apparently unintentional. In the past there are few space probes which have been deliberately destroyed at their objects of study, like the moon or other planets, typically by hard landings or crash landings at the end of their respective missions and/or functionality.

For an instance, several rocket stages utilized during the Apollo space program were deliberately crashed on the Moon to aid seismic research, and four of the ascent stages of Apollo Lunar Modules were deliberately crashed onto the Moon after they had fulfilled their primary mission.

The moon saw intentional crashing of space probes objects, into its surface, for more than 15 times.

It is to be noted that sometimes, the components of space probes intentionally crashed in order to prevent the hazards of orbital space junk/debris and planetary contamination.

But, Falcon 9 is a first "space junk", wandering in the space with no control from the earth, will crash into the moon. In other words, this is the first known unintentional impact of space junk with the moon.

Besides the moon, the Mercury too has saw intentional crashing when MESSENGER, a NASA robotic space probe that orbited the planet Mercury between 2011 and 2015, for studying Mercury's chemical composition, geology, and magnetic field, intentionally crashed into Mercury on April 30, 2015, in order to end the mission.
