For the 6th consecutive year, IITH has maintained its position within the Top 10 ranks among the technical institutes in the country and as the best among the second generation IITs.
Hyderabad: Sep 09, 2021: National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released the sixth edition of the most-awaited National Institutional rankings on September 9, 2021. IIT Hyderabad has improved its NIRF Rankings from 17 in 2020 to 16 in 2022. For the 6th consecutive year, IITH has maintained its position within the Top 10 ranks among the technical institutes in the country and as the best among the second generation IITs. IITH has significantly improved its ranking in NIRF over the last 6 years from being ranked 30 to be in the Top 16. IITH has gain ~3 points in the Research and Professional Practices & Perception and a few points improvements in other parameters. This year IITH also entered the Top 600 bracket in the QS World University Rankings for the 1st time.Expressing his delight on this attainment, Prof B S Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad, said “Today, IITH is a brand of its own. This achievement is merely due to the sheer hard work of the students, staff, faculty members, and the vision of the torch bearers of this institute and more importantly our alumni. I would also like to place on record our gratitude for the support of JICA in our growth. With new and interdisciplinary academic programs that are need of the hour and in line with the NEP-2020, IITH is destined to attract a pool of highly talented students and faculty members to invent & innovate in technology for humanity and make IITH “A Dream Destination for every Academician, Researchers & Industry. Talking about IITH’s NIRF Journey so far, Prof Vinod Janardhan, Dept. of Chemical Engineering & Convenor, NIRF at IITH said, “IITH is the only second-generation IIT that consistently made into the top 10 engineering institutes in the country. IITH’s score on some parameters such as faculty-student ratio, faculty qualification, financial resource utilization, patents, and footprint of projects, are comparable or higher than some of the older generation IITs."
Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is one of the eight new IITs established by the Government of India in 2008. In a short span of 12 years, the institute has become a top ranker and currently has 242 full-time faculty, 3,491 students (20% women), and nearly 200 state-of-the-art laboratories, and five research and entrepreneurship centers. The institute has a strong research focus with approx Rs 575 crore of sanctioned research funding with PhD scholars accounting for about 30% of total student strength. IITH has to its credit more than ~6000 research publications, 195 patent disclosures, 1440 sponsored/consultancy projects, and about 50 startups.

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on 29th September 2015. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.
