Samsung has been introducing several foldable smartphones, of which the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold 2 are the most recent models. Samsung is expected to release its first rollable smartphone in 2022. A demonstration of this slideable smartphone was already given earlier this year by the company's display division . That device does not have a foldable, but a pull-out screen.
Now in a latest, Samsung Electronics has been granted a patent for a similar slideable that was demonstrated during SID 2021, equipped with the latest functions and an advanced camera. The patent titled "Rollable electronic device including clearance compensation structure" was published on June 17, 2021, after which it has also been included in the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) database for worldwide protection of the patented technology. The 45-page documentation describes an advanced Galaxy smartphone with a rollable screen.
The compact device offers a regular-sized telephone screen. The display can then be pulled out in width via the right side. The display surface can be enlarged to approximately 30 percent, if desired, the user can also roll out only part of the display.
This is a motorized process, in which use is also made of a plurality of coil springs and a long plate-shaped spring. The flexible screen is guided over a rotation roller, which is automatically blocked when the screen is fully extended.
