The Maharashtra government is planning to set up a world-class startup hub in the state on the lines of the T-Hub situated in Hyderabad, Telangana, reported Hindustan Times.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the information technology (IT), skill development and entrepreneurship departments to form a team of experts and look in to the possibilities of building a ‘world-class’ startup hub. A study into the existing innovation and start-up ecosystem of the state has also been called by the CM.
A team of experts comprising representatives from NASSCOM and other similar organizations will be constituted by IT secretary SVR Srinivas and skill development and entrepreneurship secretary Aseem Gupta.
Notably, in June, Maharashtra State Innovation Society (MSIS) will organise Maharashtra Startup Week-2018 in order to provide a platform for startups to showcase their innovative products. The event will run from June 25 to June 29.
The idea is to promote innovative startups in the state by means of encouraging, engaging and enabling the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The MSIS has been working under the state skill development and entrepreneurship department, as a nodal agency to boost innovation driver performance and efficiency in the sector.
Speaking about T-Hub, it is inspiring many Indian states to replicate the success it got among global startup ecosystem. In January, Haryana state government announced that it is planning to build the India's biggest startup hub in Gurgaon over the next couple of years, on the lines of T-Hub.
To recall, few days back Haryana’s first startup incubation centre was launched in Panchkula, which will cater to the students of four government colleges of the district located in Panchkula, Barwala and Kalka.
In November 2017, Kejriwal government in Delhi as a state also announced that it will soon launch a Startup incubator in line with T-Hub.
Few Days back, Tamil Nadu state government had announced to launch one of its kind government-aided incubator for financial technology (Fintech) startups. The incubator will be located in Chennai.
T-Hub was started in 2015 as a partnership between the government and three academic institutions — IIIT-Hyderabad, ISB and Nalsar and is currently the largest incubator in the country. Spread over 70,000 square feet, it currently houses over 200 startups.
Last December, Punjab had also announced that it will soon launch a startup incubator called as 'Start-up Hub'. The incubator will be located in Mohali city.
