India's first United Nations (UN) Technology Innovation Lab will soon to be set up in Kerala, announced Kerala government which has tied up with UN's Office of Information and Communication Technology for the purpose. The Kerala Startup Mission will pilot the initiative on behalf of Kerala government.
The state government has identified -- water, sanitation, mobility and agriculture as best suited for this innovation centre, as it would not only address the needs of the state but also can be a collaboration lever with other UN member states in the country experiencing similar issues.
And, as the initiative is being spearheaded by Kerala Startup Mission, the startups in the state will be working closely with the Innovation lab to build products addressing issues in focus areas.
The Kerala Startup Mission and UN Technology Innovations Lab had also organized an ideation workshop in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday to discuss the various sustainable development projects the State can initiate.
The upcoming lab would be a United Nations technology project led by the Office of Information and Communication Technology and staffed with members from both the technology and substantive programme areas of the UN.
Kerala Startup Mission CEO Saji Gopinath opined that this initiative is a great opportunity for the Startups in Kerala to involve in creating path-breaking technologies that can address and resolve real-life concerns of common people.
