Flipkart, which had recently announced an internal competition to elect one of its employees as an acting-CEO-for-a-day to mark its 10th anniversary celebration (Read Here) in the Indian ecommerce business, has finally revealed the contest's winner. Flipkart’s actual CEO, Kalyan Krishnamurthy’s took to twitter today to reveal the employee's name who got to do his job for a day.

The winner of the competition, which involved filling out an application describing why would they make a good CEO for Flipkart, was revealed to be Padmini Pagadala, a designer in the online marketplace who has worked at the organisation for close to four years and has been credited for designing the first Fulfilment Centre (FC) of Flipkart.

According to Flipkart, its main aim behind the initiative was not only to make every employee a part of its 10th anniversary celebration but also to make its employees familiarise with the various challenges that occur on a daily basis at different levels of the company.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for our talented Flipsters to get a taste of what it means to be CEO of a large, innovative company like Flipkart. We have a talented pool of people leading high-intensity teams who are helping us disrupt and innovate," said Kalyan Krishnamurthy in a statement.

Sharing her excitement on taking over the CEO role for the day, the elated Padmini Pagadala, who describes herself as a feminist, warrior and dog-lover said, "Only a company like Flipkart could present this mammoth of a canvas to an artist-engineer."

Writing on Flipkart Stories, she further added, "I joined Flipkart for a reason. I wanted to be part of this juggernaut that was at the cusp of breaking buying paradigms. As a company, we have changed the way a country makes purchases. We have made an impact on the Indian economy. We have helped sellers. And to know that I have been part of this — contributed to delivering a product to the customer at the least cost possible. I have had a chance to experiment with technology. I have been part of business unit launches. I have been there for the launch of Consumer Durables – both times (2012 and 2014). I am now also part of the larger teams that are working on Grocery and Furniture. Four years. More like forty-five hundred butterflies."




As the CEO of the day, the Flipster got to attend key stakeholder meetings alongside Krishnamurthy. The actual CEO even introduced the acting CEO for the day to his team and held meetings to discuss and deal the issues at hand.

Krishnamurthy assumed his role as the CEO of the Flipkart in the beginning of the year after co-founder Binny Bansal decided to step down from the position.
