The year saw the launch of many innovative and different startups in Mumbai and many of the existing ones making it big on a global scale. We at IndianWeb2 have made a list of 10 hottest Mumbai based startups which stood out in the year 2014.

Moojic brings an innovative in-store radio service for retail outlets. Our platform allows retailers to manage the ambience and mood they want to set across their stores. Moojic allows retailers to include their promotions, sound bytes and other brand jingles into their radio programming. Moojic allows customers to access the catalogue of songs available at Cafes, Bars and restaurants using the Moojic mobile apps. Customers can request songs and interact with the playlists at locations.

Founded by Neha Behani and Kumaran Mahendran, Moojic is is looking at building a hyper-local real world advertising network in the country.

Moojic has raised an Angel round from investors that include Rajan Anandan, Managing Director of Google India. The investment was raised when the startup had mere 10-15 customers in April last year. Moojic apps have been live for a little over four months now and the startup has more than 250 active customers.

Aakrit Vaish and Swapan Rajdev quit their jobs to start the company in Aug 2013. They have offices in Mumbai and San Francisco, with most of the team currently in Mumbai.

In September 2014, Haptik bagged $1 million in a first round of equity financing from Kalaari Capital.

Requanta is mystery audit and retail intelligence offerings startups and it is not just for companies and brands but also have offerings for customers/shoppers in India as well as companies are eager to know how well they are serving their customers, and are always ready to hear it from their customers. RedQuanta’s 'Mystery shopping' is a tool to measure the quality of service or products offered by a company. This is done by engaging mystery shoppers (secret shoppers) to evaluate various services and report their experiences.

The Mumbai based startup has been founded by Pankaj Guglani and Prerna Bhutani. While Guglani is currently the CEO of the company, Bhutani is working as the CMO.

Grabhouse

The real estate sector saw a lot of action and growth in the year 2014. Though Commonfloor, Magicbricks and Housing etc. still rule the market, the year saw the entry of a very promising startup called Grabhouse in the competitive market. The startup is the country’s very first broker-free real estate search portal. It is owned by Mumbai based Cryptopy Technologies.

The startup helps its users in finding apartments, PGs and shared accommodation without the involvement of any broker. The website's interface is very easy to understand and use.

Founded by Parteek Shukla and Pankhuri Shrivastav, Grabhouse was successful in raising $2 million in a Series A round of funding led by Kalaari Capital. It has also raised $500,000 from its existing investor India Quotient in July and an undisclosed amount in January this year.

Flatchat also provides you with a human assistant who will be your one point of contact for any requirement you have. The assistant will personally assist you in finding available places. The team at the back end will make calls matching your requirement and send you options. The person looking for accommodation can chat with the assistant who will make it easier to find and meet matches.

FlatChat is founded by Gaurav Munjal who is known for founding Falt.to, a Mumbai based student accommodation website Flat.to which was acquired by Commonfloor in April last year.

Luanched just two months ago, the boostrapped startup was founded by Saurabh Sarkar and Ankit Verma in 2014 and boasts more than 3000 users.

Toppr acts as platform for test preparation for students. The company started the year with just 5 team members but now has a very strong team of 40 members. More than thirty thousand students make use of Toppr everyday for the preparation of IIT JEE and other entrance exams.

Toppr is founded by Zishaan Hayath and Hemanth Goteti and it is Zishaan's second startup. His first startup, Chaupaati.com, where he built the phone commerce platform was acquired by Futurebazaar.com. Toppr is currently backed by Helion and SAIF.

The Company founded by Kris Nair and Shubh Cheema in January, 2013 is as innovative as its name. They are a design and data platform for the construction Industry. The startup analyses billions of datapoints which include construction info, economic info and material info and, then helps the construction and real estate companies all around the globe in making their designs much faster and better. Users (b2b or b2c) can discover, collect, compare, and source building material /products directly from Brands/Manufacturers through our SaaS dashboard.

Currently, fusedcow has 450 vendors and has sourced thousands of crore rupees worth products to owners or builders. Items such as timber, vitrified tiles, bamboo flooring, electrical and plumbing fittings can be sourced using the site. Over the next year, the company plans to increase the number of vendors to about 2,000, while archiving over 10,000 architectural plans for downloads.

With offices in Mumbai, Singapore and San Francisco, fusedcow explores the intersection of product information modeling, architecture, economics, computing, data analytics and digital distribution.

Travelaero.com wants to provide its customers with a complete travel solution ranging from Flights, Hotels and car rentals. The Mumbai/Dubai based startup’s online portal went live on September, 2014. Since the launch, the startup has partnered with a number of leading brands to provides its users with online booking facility, travel itinerary and easy car rentals etc. The main focus of the startup is to cover the resident expats in United Arab Emirates, Dubai and international travelers visiting Dubai.

The new portal has been giving tough competition to established travel portals in India such as MakeMyTrip, Yatra.com or ClearTrip. What makes Travelaero different from all these sites is that along with flight and hotel bookings, it also has an extra feature of booking/renting cars. The portal has very strict cancellation and refund policies. In some of the cases, the bookings are non-refundable and further, if you don't cancel in advance you may also incur a “no-show” fee in addition to any other supplier fees charged.
