Monday saw the launch of Hindi advertisements across the whole Google Display Network. This step taken by Google is the part of the search giant’s effort to encourage the growth of Indic languages and extend out its support to more languages across the globe.
Marketers all around the world will now be able to advertise to India‘s online population in the widely spoken local language, Hindi.
The ability to advertise in Hindi language will enable advertisers to have a greater reach to the Hindi speaking audiences of the country’s online population, which is huge in numbers.
According to the search giant, with the introduction of Hindi advertisements, AdWords advertisers will now be able to build campaigns reaching the Hindi language sites on the Google Display Network using rich media, text, video display advertisement formats, and images.
There is a good quantity of quality Hindi content available on the web and more than 500 million people speak the language all around the world.
“We hope that this launch will give a boost to the growth of the Hindi web and will encourage the creation of a whole new wave of online Hindi content that will not only be useful to the burgeoning Hindi internet audience, but also make it easy for advertisers to market to this very important customer base,” said Dushyant Khare, Head of Partner Business Solutions- India and Southeast Asia, Google on the occasion of the launch.
In early November this year, Google had also announced the launch of the Indian Language Internet Alliance (ILLA). The ILLA is a group that works towards promoting the growth of Indic language content online. The ILLA is working vigorously in the hope of enabling some 300 million Indian language speakers to become highly engaged Internet users in the three years.
As a part of its effort to encourage the growth of Indic languages, the search giant has already launched the Voice Search in Hindi and a website called www.hindiweb.com. The website acts as a repository to discover the best Hindi content across blogs, websites, videos and applications for the Hindi speaking Internet users.
