Wal-Mart Stores Inc. reportedly launching its business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce platform in Indian cities - Lucknow and Hyderabad in the first week of July. The news came from statement released by Wal-Mart India head.

Krish Iyer, India president and CEO of Wal-Mart India said - "Wal-Mart would look at rolling out this service to other cities, but not for another six months at least." Wal-Mart does not have any immediate plans to sell directly to consumers through its e-commerce service, Iyer said.

Iyer also said that Wal-Mart's wholesale stores currently cater to consumers within a 20-km radius and the e-commerce business will help the company serve customers from within a 40-km radius of its stores.

In April, Wal-Mart announced plans to open 50 more wholesale outlets in India and start online operations to sell to small shopkeepers, several months after it decided against opening its own retail stores, as per LiveMint.com.

At present Wal-Mart have 20 retail units in India operates with name of 'BestPrice' not with name of Wal-Mart. The first store opened in Amritsar in 2009.

India could allow global online retailers such as Amazon to sell their own products directly to consumers as early as July, removing restrictions that have held back competition in one of the world's biggest retail markets.

The Best Price stores (a Wal-Mart venture in India) offer an assortment of around 5,000 items, including food and non-food items, which are available at competitive wholesale prices, allowing retailers and business owners to lower their cost of operations and maximize their revenues.
