Top countries of silicon valley imported talents

Silicon Valley is home to many of the world's largest technology corporations, as well as thousands of small startups and the valley imports its brains from various countries but where do they come from?, an illustrative map reveals top 100 countries from where silicon valley imports talents, made by Bloomberg Businessweek, the map shows the top 100 sources from both U.S. states and foreign countries.

According to Bloomberg, "Asian Americans became the majority of the tech workforce in the Valley" in 2010; and one third of Valley startups are founded by Indian Americans.

India is on 9th place in terms of no. of imported brains/talents to silicon valley. Mexico, Texas, and Arizona rank among the top 3 sources of Silicon Valley talents followed by Illinois, Philippines, China and New York.

In 2012, 51% of silicon valley's population spoke a language other than English exclusively at home, compared with 21% in the US.

Net migration (foreign and domestic) to Silicon Valley in 2013 reached 13,766, the highest in a decade. You can view the full map here.

Thousands of high technology companies are headquartered in Silicon Valley such as Apple, Google, facebook, Intel, Yahoo, HP, Cisco, Adobe, AMD, Ebay and Electronic arts to name a few.

A 1999 study by AnnaLee Saxenian for the Public Policy Institute of California reported that a third of Silicon Valley scientists and engineers were immigrants and that nearly a quarter of Silicon Valley's high-technology firms since 1980 were run by Chinese (17 percent) or Indian CEOs (7 percent).
