As a favourable demographic location, India is set to be the most promising country for world's prominent news/aggregator websites. Currently, the Huffington Post and BuzzFeed both are planning to launch India-focussed website and both are planning to open offices in India later this year.
As per speculations Huffington Post is expected to launch its Indian edition next month (June 2014) and currently in negotiation with two media companies for same stated NYTimes
The Huffington Post aka Huff Post is a liberal American online news aggregator portal and offers news, blogs, and original content and covers politics, business, entertainment, environment, technology, popular media and much more. The Huff post is already have its edition in countries such as US, UK, Canada, France, Spain, Italy, Japan, Germany, Portugal and Korea. India will 11th country for the website.
Buzzfeed is a popular social news and entertainment website and is all set to launch Indian edition portal and also have plans to open an office in Mumbai. BuzzFeed produces an average of 378 posts a day featuring the work of staff reporters, contributors, syndicated cartoon artists, and community.
Rather than foreign correspondents both the websites will hire local correspondent from India itself or partner with local media agencies as its is hard to find local journalist and expertise in India. Last year in september Business Insider, launched India-focussed website partnered with the Times of India.
As per Comscore, in year 2013 online news readership in India grows to 9.4 million daily visitors mostly on their mobile phones. Among the Indian news websites, The Times of India continues to be the clear leader with 12.7 million unique visitors in August, 2013.
