Amazon has launched its cloud-based reading service in the Indian market called as - Cloud Reader. The cloud reader is available for free and allows users to read all the books in Amazon's collection instantly on their web browser, without any downloads or installations.

The cloud reader is actually a web-based version of their Kindle eBook reader app, with access to over 500,000 titles that are exclusive to the Kindle Store.

Kindle Cloud Reader lets you read ebooks instantly in your web browser - no Kindle device is required for same. The service is available in India starting yesterday is an HTML5 based webapp supporting the Chrome, Firefox and Safari browsers and also available for iPad

"Kindle Cloud Reader is another big step in our 'Buy Once, Read Everywhere' mission," said Amit Agarwal, VP and country manager, Amazon India. "With Kindle Cloud Reader, you can truly start reading instantly — no download or installation. We think customers in India are going to love this new Kindle app."

The Cloud Reader service automatically synchronizes users' Kindle library, as well as the last read pages, bookmarks and notes, and highlights for all of their Kindle books.

The Kindle Cloud Reader offers some interesting features such as - with cloud reader you can start reading over 2 million of Kindle books instantly within your browser, receive automatic feature and software updates without the need to download new software, customize the page layout to your desired font size, text color, background color, and more.

As of now Amazon has expressed no interest in releasing a separate application for the GNU/Linux operating system, however the Cloud Reader can be used in Linux using the browser.
